Richie Hawtin nominates Slam’s Positive Education as his favourite track from Soma’s 20-year history…
Over the coming months, we’ll be polling some of the world’s best DJs and producers to find out which track they rate highest from Soma’s back catalogue. We’ll also be throwing the poll open to the public to find the definitive top 20 Soma tracks from the past 20 years. The Soma Top 20 will be revealed in an exclusive feature-length film in August, one month before the label’s official birthday and the release of a new CD box-set.
Until then, some of our favourite DJs are stating their case for their favourite tracks – here’s M-Nus boss Richie Hawtin making the case for Slam’s Positive Education…
.
My favorite Soma Records track is: Slam – This World (Wighnomy Bros and Robag Wruhme Dub)
This track is such a classic because it introduced many people to Wighnomy Brothers. The hook and the vocal dub in this track stick out so much, that even after 6 years, it is easy to recall this song simply by memory.
That Slam “Night Slam” mix of Sandals’ “Feet” is one of the monster tracks of the 90s.
I remember Rich dropped it at DEMF in 2005(?) in the Underground Stage somewhat near the end of his set, and that massive bWHOMMMMP drop several minutes in just about did my head in, I couldn’t believe he pulled that chestnut out of the hat! Props Rich
He is easily without a doubt one of the best DJ’s I have ever had the pleasure of seeing in person. I have seen him twice this year, once at Myst in Phoenix and the other at EDC. I have been in the EDM scene for years and never have I seen somebody make sure that no set is the same by always making edits and switching up tracks even though he has phenominal studio tracks. I can’t wait until he comes back I will definately go VIP this time!
